Abstract

Relay type-lever actions. - In a printing telegraph each key of the transmitter keyboard controls the emission of a combination of impulses and non-impulses which operates a corresponding type-lever at the receiver. The starting-break in the signalling- current releases a spring-pressed stop lever 60 from a stopping cam 62 and thus produces a synchronized single revolution of a type-lever operating cam 106, Fig. 4, and a multiple tripping member 53 having trippers 56 corresponding to the contacts of the transmitting commutator. An impulse causes a solenoid 50 to lift the tripping member so that the corresponding tripper engages a lever, which moves, through levers 76, 87 and an operating cam 80, the corresponding segmental selector bar 90 to one of its two positions. In the absence of an impulse the selector bar is moved to its other position. A pull lever 95 enters the set of notches 94 in the selector bars aligned as above, and a latch 98 on the pull lever is engaged by a lifting-plate operated from the cam 106 to print the appropriate character.
