Delivery of articles stored in piles.-In coinfreed vending-machines the articles are stored in several columns and delivered by an intermittently-rotated ejector carried by a shaft operated by a manually operated member which .carries a concentric spur, bearing on the periphery of the coin and utilising it as a mechanical transmission member, means also being provided to prevent delivery by jarring actuation of the manually operated member without the insertion of a coin. Delivery of the packages from the storage column 6 is effected by gravity on rotation of the loose discs 10. As the discs rotate, each column in turn registers with a pocket or flat 10<b> on the discs and the lowest article in the column falls into the pocket. Coin-slit closing-mechanism; returning coins. -The columns of articles 6 press levers 7 rearwardly to withdraw tcom-diverting mechanism from the position in the coin shoot 5 in which it diverts the coin to the return shoot when the columns are empty. Coin action, mechanical-connection.-The coin is received between discs 11 and effects a mechanical connection between the handoperated lever 13a and the discs 10 through the medium of the spur 13<b>. A spur on the lever 14 is actuated by the coin to move the lever out of contact with the pins 11<a> on the initial rotation of the discs. The lever 14, springs back into contact with the next pin, when released, to prevent the movement continuing beyond the point at which one package is delivered. Should an attempt be made to bye-pass this return movement of the lever 14 by jerking the handle 13<a>, the additional movement, of the latter rotates a bell-crank 16 into an obstructing position through the medium of the pin 13d.
