Abstract
323,749. Fowler, C. Aug. 24, 1928. Stoppers with valves.-In a closure for collapsable tubes &c. a slitted diaphragm of rubber &c. is permanently secured in position either by the neck itself or a member secured thereto. The neck 3, Fig. 3, of a tube 1 is enlarged to form a ledge 5 on which a slitted diaphragm 6 is placed prior to the outer end 4 of the neck being spun over to secure the diaphragm permanently in place. Alternatively, the diaphragm may be sprung into a groove formed in the neck and the groove be compressed to retain it. In a modification, the diaphragm 6, Fig. 7, is secured by a sliding cap 10 secured to the neck by being spun into a groove 12 therein or by forming the neck conical and turning the lower edge of the cap under a flange on the neck. The head of the tube may be large enough to act as a spreader and during transport, a disc of paper &c. may protect the slit in the diaphragm. The closure is adapted to keep cod-liver oil &c. out of contact with the atmosphere to prevent oxidation thereof.
