Abstract
323,335. Saulter, A. W. Dec. 3, 1928. Reets.- A drum for carrying cable wire &c. comprises a sheet-metal cylindrical barrel 1, Fig. 2, and two metal flanges 2, the parts being held together by bolts 5 which pass through the flanges and contact with the inner surface of the barrel or with inwardly-directed steps or rims 3 provided on the said flanges. The steps 3, which serve to position the barrel, may be pressed in one with the flanges or be formed separate and riveted thereto, while the peripheries of the flanges are pressed outwardly to provide bearing surfaces 12, having holes 11, for the usual wooden &c. protecting slats. In a modification, Fig. 4, the parts are held together by a central sleeve 7 provided at one end with a head 6 and screwed at the other end to receive a nut 9, while the bearing surfaces for the protecting slats are formed by L-section brackets 13 secured to the flanges. The flanges may be strengthened by radial webs 10.
