Stuffing-boxes, substitutes for.-In packing for stern-tubes of the type comprising channelled metal rings 1, pressed against the stem tube 16 and the propeller boss 13 by means of an interposed sleeve 7 of rubber or rubberized material, and having, as described in the parent Specification, lugs or other means 9, which are drawn together by bolts 17 during the insertion or removal of the packing, relative rotation of the rings 1 is prevented by means of lugs 11 on one ring engaging in the spaces between certain of the lugs 9 on the other ring. The rings 1 are formed in halves, secured together by bolts 3, and are provided with oil grooves 19, 20. The sleeve 7 is also formed in halves. One of the rings 1 may be secured to the propeller boss or to the stern tube.
