Abstract
321,794. Shimwell, O., and Gawsworth Patents, Ltd. Oct. 17, 1928. Shuttleless looms.-In looms of the type described in Specification 233,099, wherein the weft is drawn out into loop form at each side of the loom, the legs of each loop being successively drawn into the warps by a weft carrier, the length of the loops is varied by adjusting the positions of the yarn cutting and clamping members u, q, r, Fig. 6, for the ends of the loops. For this purpose, the members u, q, r are housed in brackets n, o, Fig. 1, which are adjustably bolted in slots k, m, in a frame a. The yarn clamping and cutting members in the bracket o comprise a stationary clamp and a stationary cutting blade with which co-operate a clamp and a cutter carried by spring-controlled bell-crank levers operated by a lever y, Fig. 6, controlled by a cam z on the shaft e. The lever y is fixed to a spindle 2, connected by lever-members 3, 4, to a barrel 5 carrying a thread guide p whereby, when the shaft e is oscillated, the thread-guide p also is oscillated. The yarn clamping and cutting members in the bracket n are actuated by separate cams on the shaft e. The weft which is attached to one of the clippers and extends to the bobbins through a tensioning device comprising the guide eyes 23, 24 and an adjustable intermediate friction pad 25 is engaged by the double hooks 26 on an endless chain 15 passing over sprocket wheels j, 16, 17, 18 and an adjustable tensioning sprocket wheel 19, whereby it is drawn into loop form as shown in Figs. 7 and 8. The upper clip and blade are now closed, and one leg of the loop is cut and transferred to the shed by the weft carrier 28, Fig. 1. Theneafter, the lower clip is opened and the other leg of the loop is inserted into the cloth. The end of the thread is now held in the upper clip and on the guide eye p being turned on the shaft e, the yarn is again placed in the path of the hooks 26 and a fresh loop is formed. As the hooks 26 reach the sprocket wheel 18, which is the limit of their traverse with the weft threads thereon, a guide 14, operated by gearing 13, 12, 11, 10, 9 from a cam on the shaft e, is lowered into the loop to receive the thread as it is released by the turning of the chain 15 on the sprocket. A depressing lever 29 lowers the legs of the loop into the path of the carrier 28.
