Abstract

320,862. Cadett, J. W. T. July 21, 1928. Spray carburettors.-Relates to a modification of the carburettor described in Specification 261,057. The carburettor according to the earlier Specification comprises a main air passage a and a branch passage f, g into which the main nozzle h discharges. The branch is open to the atmosphere at g and is so dimensioned and arranged that the lower portion is never sealed by the fuel, at level i, so that mixture and not air alone is always supplied to the main passage. A subsidiary passage l opens into the main passage at such a position as to ensure its being closed by the throttle b when the latter is closed, and its other extremity opens into the main air passage between the throttle and the branch passage. A small jet k in the subsidiary passage is fed with fuel that has passed through the main nozzle h. As shown, the jet is supplied through a passage m leading from an overflow chamber j. According to the invention, the subsidiary passage, instead of returning to the main air passage, is open at its inlet end direct to atmosphere and may be provided at this end with control means. According to the Provisional Specification, the main nozzle may discharge directly into the main air passage.
