Bottles, washing and cleaning. - Bottles arranged mouth upwards in water C' are conveyed through a machine by a pair of endless intermittently-moving conveyer chains H, and means are provided for raising the bottles from the crates into contact with brushes or other cleaning members. In the construction shown, brushes B, B<1> for cleaning, respectively, the interior and exterior surfaces of the bottles are located above the path of the conveyer chains and are adaptel to be rotated through gearing from a shaft d<2> driven by a motor N. The brushes B are associated with spring-pressed bottle guides E which serve to keep the bristles clean as they move up and down. The brushes B' are arranged in pairs, each pair being associated with a spring-pressed bottle guide E' adapted to impart rotary movement to a bottle. Pedestals M corresponding to a row of bottles in both crates are carried by a cross-bar m adapted to be reciprocated vertically by a driven cam K<1>, whereby the pedestals, cleft to avoid the wires at the bottom of the crates, raise the bottles into contact with the brushes B, B<1>. In a modification, pedestals are provided equal in number to the number of bottles in a crate.
