Abstract
320,194. Gilbert, W. Aug. 30, 1928. Thermometers.-To avoid errors due to radiation &c. losses in the reading of a thermometer or pyrometer inserted in a conduit &c. the thermometer is surrounded by or enclosed within a number of completely spaced tubes, plates or other surfaces. Fig. 1 shows a form in which the hot junction a of a thermocouple, enclosed in a steel tube b is surrounded by a number of coaxial tubes c - - c4 having their axis parallel to the direction of flow of the hot air &c. the temperature of which is to be measured. The tubes are supported by bolts c<5> on which are mounted porcelain spacing-sleeves c<6>. The tubes may be replaced by a series of parallel plates.
