Abstract

320,049. Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., Willshaw, H., and Yoxon, G. H. B. May 22, 1928. Dynamometers; testing balls.-Apparatus for testing golf balls, golf clubs and for display purposes comprises an arm 2, carrying the club 1, which is rotated through the shaft 3 and bevel gearing 4 by the shaft 5 which is actuated by a weight 6 carried by the rod 7 pivotally connected at 8 to the parallel arm bracket 9 rigidly attached to the member 10 on the shaft 5. The shaft 5 is rotated by means of a handwheel 12 and worm gearing 13 through a dog clutch 14 controlled by a handwheel operated lever 15 pivoted at 16 on the bracket 17 supporting the worm. The weight 6 is kept raised by a detent 19 which is released from engagement with the member 10 by means of the Bowden wire 27. The club is driven through a free wheel mechanism not shown in the drawings. The tee rod 37 can be adjusted both horizontally and vertically. The position of the club is also adjustable by securing it in a sleeve 42 rotatably adjustable in the arm 2. The weight 6 may be connected to the shaft 5 through a cable and drum and the apparatus may be motor operated. 'The apparatus may be modified to take two clubs or two sets of apparatus may be coupled operatively together.
