Weft-inserters not carrying bobbins, cops, and the like, looms with.-The weft-inserting needle or needles are guided to ensure their correct engagement with the selvage thread by one or more vertically-movable guides adapted to rise and fall in front of and behind the needles.. As shown, the needles N are guided by one or more forks F situated in spaces formed in the warps by the rod and carried on rods R guided in brackets G and reciprocated by a cam-worked lever L. Instead of a two-pronged fork as shown,. single guides arranged alternately in front of and behind the needles may be used, or, where the needles are arranged side by side, a three-pronged fork may be employed.
