Abstract
319,544. White, E. A. Dec. 4, 1928. Roller and roller-and-breast mills.-In a mill for grinding inks, paint &c. of the kind in which two or more low speed grinding rollers 2, Fig. 1, contact with a common high-speed roller 1 the pressure of the grinding rollers 2 on the feeding and delivery roller 1 is applied by means of a hydraulic pump 7 operated by the mill operating means. The rollers are driven from fast and loose pulleys 3, by means of toothed wheels 4, 4, and the pump 7 is driven by an eccentric 6 mounted on the spindle of the roller 1. The pump 7 delivers the liquid to pistons which compress springs 10 on the bearings 2<a> of the rolls 2 to force these rolls with an even pressure on to the roll 1. A scraper 5 collects the ground material from the roll 1 and if desired further grinding of the material may take place between the roll 1 and a breast-bar 15 mounted in a divided channel member 12, Fig. 3, one compartment housing the breast-bar and the other a slidable spring-pressed bar 13 which compresses the ground material entering the compartment due to the rotation of the roll 1 and forces it under the breast-bar 15.
