Abstract

Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.-An air relief valve comprises a main valve member f carried by a piston f<2> having a skirt f<1> working in a chamber e supported by webs d from the casing a. Fluid from main conduit is admitted to the chamber e through a port l in the bottom of the chamber and is vented to atmosphere to open the main valve through a port k under the control of a floating ball j housed in the chamber. The ball may be made of metal, glass or rubberccvered wood and may be fitted with a needle valve engaging the port, and in its lowest position may engage a seat x about the port l. A hinged isolating valve o may be arranged at the bottom of the casing. A drain cock u may be fitted to the chamber e and a bye-pass and venting valve t arranged across the isolating valve for testing purposes. Ports v, w in the chamber wall and piston skirt respectively and a projecting rib z on the chamber are arranged to cause a rapid inflow into the chamber e when the main valve is in its lowest position consequent on the complete emptying of the conduit. These details may, however, be dispensed with, and an inlet provided in the piston. Specification 302,526 is referred to.
