Priming, preventing. - Steam enters the take-off pipe 1 in the steam space of a boiler through small outwardly flared orifices 8 so extending over the whole or a part of the surface of the pipe as to give a uniform flow of steam throughout the length of the pipe. A screen 5 extends around the bottom of the pipe to prevent the direct passage of water drops through the lower orifices. The spacing of the orifices may vary at different parts of the pipe, and the number of orifices necessary may be determined experimentally by means of adjustable sleeves closing some of the orifices.
