Abstract
317,408. Eichengr³n, A. Feb. 8, 1928. Grant of Patent refused. Cellulose esters and ethers, processes for making filaments from.-Artificial silk &c. having filaments of less than 3-4 deniers, is made by the dry spinning methods while using spinning apertures of normal dimensions, by employing solutions of cellulose acetate or other cellulose esters, or of cellulose ethers containing a solvent or latent solvent, and a coagulant having a boiling point higher than that of the solvent or latent solvent, the latter being used in such proportions as will permit of the use of winding speeds in excess of the normal. According as the propertion of the coagulant is greater so may higher winding speeds be employed, the product being of increasing fineness. Reference is made to the employment of the following solvent mixtures for use with cellulose acetate :-methylene chloridealcohol, alcohol - benzene - acetone, ethylene chloride-alcohol, ethylene chloride-alcohol-acetone, ethyl acetate-alcohol, ethyl formate-alcohol, acetone-alcohol, and acetone-alcohol-benzol-water. In the place of cellulose acetate there may be employed cellulose propionate, ethylcellulose, benzylcellulose, alkylcellulose actates, cellulose nitro-acetates &c. Specifications 1441/10, 18076/10, and 243,350 are referred to.
