Abstract
316,972. Electra Apparatenbau Ges., (Assignees of Matzka, 0.). Aug. 7, 1928, [Convention date]. Affixing stamps &c.-A hand apparatus for affixing stamps &c. comprises a verticallyreciprocating press plate with interconnected means for feeding the stamps from a strip, severing the stamps, &c. and moistening the surface to which it is to be affixed, the feeding means comprising a pivoted cam plate with a link to an oscillating pawl engaging recesses on a disc mounted on the shaft of a feeding roller. The press plate 15, Fig. 2, is carried by a frame 17 normally abutting against a top plate 13 under the tension of a spring 16. The press plate is operated, with some lost motion, by a sliding, spring-returned tube 9 the lower end of which carries a pawl 22 adapted to engage a projection 21<a> on a spring-influenced knife 21. the depression of which severs a previously fed stamp from the strip. The pawl 22 is freed by the engagement of its lower end with the press plate, the knife being thus returned by the springs 20 before the actuation of the press plate. The stamps are fed from a roll 27 between guide plates 32, 33 by a pair of interengaging rolls 28, 29 the former being fitted with pins 31 riding in a groove in the latter. The bottom roll 29, together with the guide plate 33, can be removed for inserting the strip. The shaft of the upper roll 28 carries a disc 43, Fig. 1, with recesses engaged by a. retaining pawl 46 and an operating pawl 44 carried on a crank 41 operated by a link 39 connected with a pivoted plate 38. The plate 38 is operated by a projection 36 on the tube 9 engaging its edge and is returned by a spring 38<a>. A similar plate, similarly operated, is mounted at the other side of the apparatus and its lower end engages, in turn, the arms 48 of a spider on the other end of the shaft of the feeding roll to limit its rotation at the end of a feeding stroke. The end stamp is temporarily supported by a pair of pivoted spring flaps 53 which are moved out of the way on the depression of the press plate. The surface is moistened by a spring-influenced pad 49 connected by links to the lower ends of the plates 38.
