Abstract

316,738. Woznack, M. J. June 25, 1928. Vehicle lamps, directing.-In a mechanism, for directing car headlights from the steering mechanism, in which means are provided for disconnecting the headlights from the steering- gear, a rock-arm 45 operated by the latter actuates, through a link 43, arms 42, 39 on a rock-shaft 40, link 38, sliding rod' 34, and link 30, an arm 27 secured to a clutch member 26 movably mounted on the operating shaft 22 of the lamp. The vertically-movable clutch collar 26 carries pins 25 which, when the collar 26 is raised, enter apertures in a clutch collar 23 secured to the shaft 22, and cause the shaft 22 to turn with the steering mechanism. The clutch member 26 is moved between the engaging and disengaging positions by means of foot pedals 65 operating a pivoted lever 63 connected to a link 67, the other end of which is connected to a sliding rod 69. A rack 71 on the end of this rod rotates a pinion, on the shaft of which is a disc 76 carrying an eccentric pin 77 engaging a slot formed by the two parts 81, 82 of a pivoted lever, through the end of which passes a rod 54 connected at one end to a clutch-operating lever 50 and at the other to a lever 58 which operates a locking-pin 56. Springs 89, 90 surrounding the rod 54 transmit the movements of the lever 81, 82 to the levers 50, 58. In the position shown in Fig. 7, the clutch is engaged for operation of the headlights by the steering mechanism. When the lever 81, 82 is raised the clutch member 26 is lowered and disengaged, whilst the locking-pin 56 is lowered and engages one of the apertures in the upper clutch member 23 to lock the lamps in the ahead position.
