Pencil sharpeners.-A pencil sharpener using razor blades of the double-edged type comprises a conically bored guidesheath 1 with a lateral extension 2 upon which the blade. 6 is held by a clamping-plate 7 and a screw 4 passing through the central hole, in the blade and coincident apertures in the plate 7 and extension 2, the plate 7 being provided on its underside with two spaced studs 8 which fit closely within the outer holes of the blade and extend into depressions 5 of larger diameter in the portion 2. The screw 4 also fits closely within the central holes of the cover plate and blade and is a, loose fit within the extension 2, thereby enabling the position of the cutter-edge of the blade to be varied relatively to the pencil. A nut at the end of the screw 4 is located beneath the extension 2. To adapt the sharpener for pencils of small diameter a removable bush 12 may be inserted in the end of the conically bored sheath 1. An offset extension 10 along the rear edge of the cover plate 7 protects the fingers,of the user against cutting by the rear edge of the blade. The portion 2 and the attached guide-sheath may be removed and the blade clamped upon the plate 7 to enable the device to be used as a knife for trimming paper &c.
