Abstract

Sewing-machine folding devices. - A previously folded hem is guided into the sewing- machine by a folder guide so bent as to hold the hemmed material firmly and present it to the needle for accurate stitching and including means for retarding the feed of the fabric to equalize its rate of feed with that of the hem. In the form shown, the folded edge of the fabric S is passed into the hem guide 6 carried by the springy plate 5 clamped to the securing plate 1 by screws 3. The hem is retarded by friction in the guide. The feed of the fabric is retarded by the same amount by screwing down the nut 11 by the handle 12, causing an arm 7 to press the guide 6 on to the fabric. The hemming guide 6 is bent as shown in Fig. 2 so that the edge E of the fabric is gripped between the inturned end A of the hemmer and the bent part B, to ensure that the fold at the edge of the fabric is presented accurately to the needle for stitching.
