Abstract

Index tabs.-Clips for use as index tabs or for other flat articles consist of a plate-like main 'body provided with gapping members or limbs alternately offset in opposite directions and respectively provided with prongs which point in a direction opposite to that in which the limbs are offset. The clips are adapted for use with index cards of the kind provided with a line of spaced apertures parallel to one edge to receive the prongs of clips disposed anywhere along them. Figs. 2 and 4 show a clip with a body 111 formed with a central limb 114 offset oppositely to two end limbs 113, 115, the arrangement being such that the limbs can grip the edge of an index card 112, and the prong 117 on the end of the limb 114 extends through the apertures 120 in a direction opposite to that of prongs 116, 118 on the other two limbs. In a modification, Fig. 4, a. clip 125 is formed with two limbs 126, 127 oppositely offset and respectively provided with prongs 128, 129 which extend through a common aperture, the limb 127 being slightly longer than limb 126 so that it surrounds one side of it and the prong 128 is disposed above prong 129. The oppositely offset limbs may be formed with straight edges provided with teeth or prongs, as shown in Fig. 5, and, to prevent the teeth from being disengaged from a card &c. due to the latter becoming corrugated in a direction at right-angles to the clip, the slits 43, 44 between the limbs 40-42 may be formed obliquely, so that the limbs are bent with the card. For use in attaching articles together the clips may be provided with alternately offset limbs along two opposite edges, and may be formed in two halves 131, 132, Fig. 8, which are hinged or articulated together. The clips may be formed from single strips or pieces of metal in which the limbs are cut and offset, or two pieces formed with pronged limbs may be riveted or secured together in hnown manner.
