Abstract

315,367. L³dke, W. July 12, 1928, [Convention date]. Rotary electric fields, producing. - Rotating electric fields are produced by the interaction of two or more simple electric fields or discharges directed perpendicularly or at an oblique angle to each other and energized by oscillatory sources adjusted as regards amplitude, phase, and frequency so that the resultant field is of circular or elliptic form, or corresponds to the Lissajou figures. Chemical reactions in gases or liquids are facilitated by the rotating field. As shown in Fig. 2 the constituent fields are set up between condenser plates i, j energized by an oscillatory source. The circuit of the condenser j includes a coil k which displaces the phase of the j field relatively to the i field. Independent sources such as spark gaps may be used for the two fields. Each condenser may be subdivided into two or more condensers connected in series or in parallel. The condenser faces may be of 'plane or curved form, and may be of any conductive material. The condenser plates u may be carried on rotatable drums s, Fig. 5, the operative plates being connected in circuit by brushes v which may be of mercury. The condenser plates and their energizing sources and circuits may be arranged in the annular space between two insulating tubes, the substance to be treated being introduced within the inner tube. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the condenser plates may be of liquid metal or jets or surfaces of electrolytes, and that the plates may be elongated to form Lecher wires. Magnetic fields may be combined with the electric fields. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
