Abstract
314,690. Soper, H. N. July 17, 1928. Window-guards.-A shutter 6 adapted to be interposed to protect the goods in a shop window when the glass is broken, and of the kind which is held open by a catch controlled by an electromagnet, is controlled by current from a battery &c. passing through an easily broken coating, film, or strips of conductor 2 on the window. The catch is released by the interruption of the circuit when the pane is broken. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the spring-controlled catch 20, pivoted at 21, supports the pin 22 on the shutter 6 and is held by a rod 18. The rod 18 is withdrawn by the spring 14 and lever 12 when the electromagnet 9 is de-energized by breakage of the glass and releases the armature stop 11 from the lever. The conducting strips may consist of silver nitrate, gold-leaf, or an amalgam of tin and mercury &c. The shutter may have a winding handle 7 and a non-return ratchet 8. The shutter is preferably composed of steel slats and may be gravity or spring actuated. The electromagnet may be actuated through a relay. Contacts 26 in an alarm-bell circuit 25 may be released and close automatically by actuation of the rod 18.
