Tools.-Shaped bodies for tools are produced from refractory materials such as carbides and their alloys, for example refractory metal carbides and metals such as iron, cobalt, or nickel, by mixing the powdered materials with a binder capable of setting or hardening at ordinary or slightly raised temperatures, working the body mechanically to its final form, and then highly sintering it. The binder may be a solution or suspension of a resin, lac, or gum, or a powdered cement-like material, or an easily fusible metal or metalloid.
