Abstract
313,254. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). April 10, 1928. Purifying fatty, mineral, and tar oils; fatty acids, obtaining.-In distilling by the introduction of liquids such as benzine or water beneath the surface of liquids from which volatile substances are to be expelled e.g. fats or mineral oil, coal tar oil, brown coal tar oil &c., the temperature being such that the first liquid is explosively vaporized in the second and carries the volatile constituents away with the vapour, an apparatus such as that shown is used for introducing the first liquid without premature volatilization. In this apparatus water &c. heated and under pressure is circulated from tube A to tube B and is admitted in small quantities at a valve F into the liquid to be distilled. In an example, pea-nut oil, containing 5 per cent of free fatty acid is heated to 250' C. in a vacuum apparatus and water at 175‹ C. and 8 atmospheres pressure is passed into it and explosively vaporized.
