Yarns and threads. - Yarns or threads are coated with fine dust, flock, powder, or short fibres of anv suitable material such as artificial silk, silk wool, cotton, asbestos, cellulose or the like, these materials being caused to adhere to the yarns by an adhesive or the like which on drying retains a high degree of flexibility. As adhesives, nitro-cellulose or cellulose solutions and rubber solutions of all kinds are suitable. The' yarn, while tacky, is passed through a receptacle containing the coating material. By maintaining the yarns taut, and oscillating them by means of snail cams h, h<1> during their passage through a receptacle a, a coated thread is produced the fibres of which are disposed substantially radially.
