Abstract

312,280. Heberlein & Co. Akt.-Ges. May 23, 1928, [Convention date]. Right to Patent relinquished. Yarns and threads, treating with liquids. - Partly acetylated cellulose fibres which are immune to dyeing with substantive dyes are prepared by treating the fibre with a known acetylating mixture of glacial acetic acid, acetic anhydride and a catalyst, containing in addition formaldehyde, trioxymethylene or other polymer or derivative of formaldehyde or a compound which would furnish formaldehyde under the conditions of the reaction. The formaldehyde retards the weakening or dissolution of the threads, for example cotton, by the acetylating mixture without hindering acetylation. An example describes the treatment of cotton yarn with a mixture of glacial acetic acid, acetic anhydride, zinc chloride and paraformaldehyde.
