Abstract

311,758. V. D., Ltd., (Assignees of Soc. Anon. pour l'Exploitation des Brevets et Procedes Vigneron-Dahl). May 16, 1928, [Convention date]. Addition to 298,218. Trawling-gear. - In gear as described in the parent Specification in which shear boards operate just above the ground, the head-rope crowfoot is attached to the outer face of the shearboard in substantially the same vertical line as the attachment of the rear part of the bracket to which the towing cable is secured. To insure the verticality of the boards the upper branch of the head-rope crowfoot and the lower rigid or flexible arms of the bracket on the shear board may be made longer or the bracket may be placed higher on the board. Glass balls 38<a>, Fig. 8, cased on metal may be secured by wooden fairings 40 to the top edge of the board. Weights which may consist of rollers or chains are detachably connected to the head-rope and brushes which may be rotary and be provided with propellors may be attached to the weights. Preferably these ballasting devices are connected to rings sliding on the head-rope and are during fishing attached by shackles to rings fixed on the head-rope. When the shear-board is connected to the towing cable by a branch rope, it is ballasted by one or more hanging chains and a second chain may be suspended from the junction of the branch rope and the towing cable. The nets may have wide wings, each of which is attached to its shear board by two cables and the usual stretching slots may be dispensed with. Slats may however be placed adjacent the net and adjacent the shear boards and additional shear boards may be placed at the ends of the net wings. Preferably such a net is provided with side cables 42 and oblique cables 43. All connections of cables to shear boards are preferably made through swivels. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a. shear board. having an aperture 24, Fig. 2, (Cancelled) through which passes a pennant 25 connecting the headrope and towing cable. A stop 29 carried by the pennant slides up to a ring 27 carried by the head-rope crowfoot. Alternatively a cable continuous from ship to net passes through the aperture and is connected at a single point to bracket. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
