Abstract

311,556. Mackie & Sons, Ltd., J., and Mackie, J. P. May 14, 1928. Coilers.-In an arrangement for delivering flax &c. slivers into cans having means for removing a filled can after a definite length of sliver has been laid in it, and replacing it by an empty can the cans 1, 2 are mounted on a carriage 10 sliding in guide rails 11. The carriage is reciprocated by a crank 15 and link 14. A second crank 30 having a smaller throw reciprocates a bar 26 in guides 27. This bar carries a fixed abutment 24 and pawl 25 adapted to engage a projection 23 on a pull bar 20 sliding in guides 21, 12. The pawl 25 is normally held out of engagement with the projection 23 by a rail 33 mounted on a spindle 35 which can be rocked by a spring-controlled vertical rod 37 and arms 36. At the appropriate moment the rod 37 is depressed by an arm 42 engaged by a pin 41 on a worm wheel 39 driven from the delivery mechanism. The pawl 25 then engages the pull rod and moves it in opposition to the movement of the carriage 10, whereby an arm 22 on the rod engages the can 2 and pushes the full can 1 off the carriage, replacing it by the can 2.
