Abstract
311,310. Savage, E. M. Feb. 9, 1928. Separating by shaking-apparatus.-Relates to apparatus for sorting granular materials of different shapes, such as a mixture of round and irregular shaped diamonds, seeds &c. of the kind comprising an inclined table on to which the materials are delivered and to which is imparted a jigging movement causing the different grades of material to move in opposite directions and discharge at the upper and lower edges of the table, and consists in the provision of a rotary unbalanced shaft mounted on the underside of the table for imparting the jigging movement, and adjustable supports for the table comprising laterally extending springs connected to the frame and pairs of leaf-springs bearing on the upper and lower faces of the table, preferably with the interposition of rollers. An adjustable stop may be provided on the fixed part of the frame to limit the movement of the table and produce a jarring effect. As shown in Figs. 1, 3 the table 19, which may be covered with rubber or other material, is supported on a fixed frame 2 by laterally extending springs 7 adjustable by screwbolts. The edges of the table lie between pairs of leaf springs 54, 55, 62, 63 preferably provided at their ends with rollers and adjusted by set screws mounted in the flanges of channel members 24 secured to the frame 2. An adjustable stop 69 contacts with the end of the table at the one end of its movement. A rotary shaft 21 carrying unbalanced weights 22 is mounted under the table and is driven by an electric motor 20 or by other means. The frame 2 is pivoted on supports 30 and is secured at the required inclination by nuts 32. The charge is fed from a hopper 77 having a discharge gate 74, the position of which is adjusted by a screw 92, and is conveyed to the table by an intermittently moving band 88, which is actuated by ratchet- and-pawl mechanism 94, 97, a lever 95, link 99 and crank-disc. 100 on a driven shaft 102. Shoots 110, 111 placed under the upper and lower ends of the table receive the separated materials.
