Feb. 7, 1928. lubricant conveyed by mechanical means.-In a slicing-machine having a part, such as the substance-supporting carriage 3, adapted to be reciprocated along guide bars 2, each guide bar is embraced by a loose ring 14 dipping into oil contained in a trough 12 disposed beneath the guide. The ring 14 is arranged between the carriage bearing blocks 7, which are provided with projections 13, whereby, as the carriage reciprocates, the ring 14 is moved along and simultaneously rotated on the guide so as to supply lubricant thereto. As shown, the trough 12 is formed on the carriage, but it may be stationary. The ring 14 may be provided with inclined vanes. According to the Provisional Specification the bearing blocks may have cam surfaces adapted to engage pins on the ring for rotating the latter.
