Street posts; bases for posts.-The bases for tall poles, street standards, &c., are formed of wrought iron or steel tubes 2, fitted at the upper and lower ends with ornamental cast iron rings 3, 4 of the form shown, secured by rivets 5. A switch or fusebox may be riveted to the tube 2, and the pole 7 passes through the tube 2. In modified constructions, the base may comprise telescopic tubes which are secured together, the lower ornamentation comprising a cast ring resting on the edge of the lower tube; or a single wrought iron tube is expanded in diameter in stages, preferably toward the lower end, the cast collars resting on the shoulders thus formed. For easy replacement, the cast iron portions may be split longitudinally into sections which are secured together. The construction described may be used for small street pillars and guard posts, the upper cast iron portion being formed as a closing cap.
