Abstract
308,200. Compagnie de BÚthune. March 19. 1928, [Convention date]. Void Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Drawings to Specification. Ethylene is formed by decomposing ethane in the presence of oxygen or atmospheric air, the ethane having preferably another gas such as coke oven gas, water gas, &&. containing hydrogen added thereto. The heat required for the reaction may be developed wholly or partly by the oxidation of a part of the gaseous mixture or of the hydrogen formed, the reaction being carried out in the presence of a finely divided refractory substance such as pumice stone or silica, kept at a temperature of 600-900‹ C., and with or without a catalyzer.
