Abstract
308,010. Dodson, E. Jan. 11, 1928. Recovering oils and waste lubricants. -Air, vapour, and volatile impurities are separated from oil by circulating it through a Venturi tube B and providing beyond the tube an enlarged chamber D provided with a vent opening G controlled by a float-operated valve F. The reduction in pressure at the throat of the tube B causes the separation of the air &c. into bubbles which rise into the chamber D. A conduit H communicating with the atmosphere through a trap J leads to the throat, whereby air is drawn in to assist the separation. The trap J contains a float-operated valve J<2> controlling the air inlet, whereby liquid cannot escape through the trap when the pressure reduction in the tube B is insufficient. The tube B is provided with a heating jacket K to facilitate the separation. The invention may be applied to the separation of benzole from oil, or to lubricating systems of internal - combustion engines. In the latter case, the separated air and vapour may escape to the atmosphere, may be led to the induction pipe, or may be led to a hydrostatic gauge.
