Abstract

307,381. Reyrolle &. Co., Ltd., A., Leeson, B. H., and King, O. C. F. Dec. 6, 1927. Selective distant control systems; illuminated stencil indicators.-An indicating mechanism for giving selective indications of the condition of a number of apparatus comprises a common actuator and means whereby the movement of the actuator is transmitted to the movable indicator associated with the selected apparatus while the other indicators are unaffected. Selecting and indicating system. The selecting push 80 energizes an operating coil 91 of a bolt 90 interlocking the selecting and indicating mechanism and thus breaks the circuit of the actuator coils 62, 64 and closes the circuit of a coil 72 which causes the selector 70 to make a half-notch movement as described in Specification 307,379. The substation polarized relay 50 is energized over wires 21, 22 to close contacts of a selector relay 53 which energizes the stepping magnet 43 to drive the substation selector 40. Selector contacts 44, 45 energize the control station selector coil 76 which drives the selector 70 a further half-notch. In this position an indicating circuit is closed through circuit breaker contacts 32, selector contacts 41 and polarized relay 60 through wires 20, 22. The first half-notch movement of the selector deenergizes the locking bolt, coil 91 but the bolt is mechanically held until the selecting movement is completed. Polarized relay 60 energizes one of the coils 62, 64 which operate the actuator which closing contact 65 or 66 re-energizes the locking bolt 91 for the next selecting movement. Operation of the selected apparatus is effected by push 83, the polarized relay 50 and the executive relay 54. Construction of indicator. Fig. 2 shows a panel A having a series of windows A1 and a line representation of the circuit. The indications are visible in the form of bars on plates D through a disc or lens which may be painted with a bar in a contrasting colour which may be manually rotated to agree with the indication. The panel is provided with a central aperture A7 having therein a disc and pointer carried by the selector spindle B. The armature C1 of the actuator coils C, C2 is connected through a link C3 to a plate C4 rigid with a toothed wheel C5 the direction of rotation of which determines the indication given. As shown the rocking movement is transmitted to the indicating member D by means of a planet wheel B2 carried from the selector spindle B and a forked pivoted lever E. The indicator when operated is held by catch levers F, F1 which are released in the next selection by a stud B7 so that the indicator before operation is spring returned to a central blank position. Fig. 8 shows a modified means of operating the indicator which comprises a rotatable disc H which carries a pinion HI meshing with a pinion K carried by the planet wheel on the selector spindle. A planet pinion integral with the pinion K is engaged by the actuator sun wheel and operates the indicator which is released by lever H7. The teeth of pinions K, H1 are cut away as shown so that if the indication is unchanged the teeth do not engage. Fig. 9 shows a further modification in which all the indicators L are coupled to the actuator M3 by springs so that the selected indicator is operated but the remaining indicators are held by a disc A on the selector spindle which abuts cam surfaces on the indicator spindles.
