Abstract

Alternating-current induction machines; rotary transformers.-In an arrangement for regulating an induction motor or other asynchronous machine by means of a commutator frequency converter driven at a speed proportional to that of the asynchronous motor and having no stator field windings or only commutating windings on its stator, the converter is provided with pairs of brushes movable relatively to each other for speed regulation, the voltage between the brushes being applied directly to a winding on the motor under regulation. In addition, all the brush sets may be moved together for phase regulation. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the three-phase secondary windings 3, 4, 5 of the main induction motor 1 are brought out on each pole to rings 6 which are connected to brushes on the commutator 14 of the frequency transformer 15. This consists of an unwound stator with a closed winding symmetrically tapped to six rings 16 connected to the supply through a transformer 18. Speed regulation of the main machine 1 is effected by moving brushes 7, 9, 11 in one direction and the brushes 8, 10, 12 in the other, and phase regulation by moving all the brushes together in the same direction. Fig. 2 shows the application to a frequency transformer having shunt and series commutating windings. In this case, the frequency converter is provided with two commutators, one at each end of its rotor, and the stator is divided into two parts capable of independent rotation, each with one of the brush sets. The secondary windings 3, 4, 5 are connected respectively to the brush pairs 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 on the two commutators 19, 20 through the series commutating coils 22, 24. The twopart stator carries movably the auxiliary shunt coils 21, 23 in addition to the series coils. Speed regulation of the main motor 1 is effected by turning the two halves of the stator, together with the brushes and stator coils, in opposite directions and phase regulation is carried out by moving the two halves &c. in the same direction.
