Abstract
307,067. Le Grand, R. P. A. March 2, 1928, [Convention date]. Feeding webs.-A printing-machine is provided with means for feeding paper from a roll intermittently and cutting it into sheets before it is passed to the printing-couple, means being provided to drive the feeding and cutting devices in synchronism. The feeding - apparatus comprises feedrollers 3, 4 and a pressure roller 5, normally held in friction contact by rubber bands 13 and driven continuously. Arcuate cams secured to the shaft of the roller 3 engage discs on tne shaft of tne rollers 4 to separate these rollers slightly at intervals to interrupt the feed of the web from the reel 19 and by changing the cams the length of web fed at each revolution of the roller 3 can be varied. The web passes from the rollers 3, 4 over a guide 40 and between a fixed knife 27 and a knife 29 carried by a head 28 which is reciprocated by cams 31 on a shaft 30 driven by gearing from the shaft of the roller 3. The supports 23 carrying the cutters are adjustable by a screw 38 in accordance with the lengths of the sheets being cut, so that the cut takes place when the front end of the sheet is in a position to be gripped by the rollers 42, 43 of the printing machine. A graduated scale may be provided on the bed of the machine to facilitate this adjustment.
