Liquid fuel supplied under high pressure through an inlet b, the annular space between concentric tubes f,l and tangential channels g to a vortex chamber p is atomized by discharge through a central orifice in a plate e which is secured to the tube f by a nut h. Alternatively, liquid fuel under low pressure may be supplied to the chamber p through an inlet c and the tube f for atomization by tangential streams of compressed air or steam supplied through the inlet b. The hole s through which the tube f communicates with the chamber p is controlled by an adjustable needle valve t.
