Abstract
306,273. Glascodine, R. T., McDermid, W. F., and Spencer, A. Feb. 9, 1928. Fluid-pressure.-A valve device particularly applicable for limiting the degree of vacuum in the train pipe of vacuum brake apparatus for railway vehicles has a piston-actuated main valve opened by vacuum under the control of a spring loaded auxiliary valve. The auxiliary valve 1 is arranged to operate within a fixed casing 2 arranged concentrically within the main valve and held in position by a perforated cap 5 engaging a flange 6. The casing 2 is formed in its outer surface with two grooved cylindrical surfaces 7, 8 adapted to cooperate with corresponding surfaces on the main valve member 10 which co-operates with a seat 12. The auxiliary valve engages a seat on the end of the casing 2 and is opened by excessive vacuum acting against an adjustable spring 16 to connect the chamber 9 to the train pipe through ports 14 and so cause the main valve to open and permit the entry of air through ports 11. A restricted port 13 in the member 2 permits atmospheric pressure to operate in the chamber 9 when the auxiliary valve is closed, to allow the main valve to seat by gravity.
