Paper bags, making. - In making paper bags of the " cross-bottom " type, a tubular web fed along a former a passes beneath a rotary cutter e adapted to remove a semicircular or other portion from the upper part of the web before the web is fed by rollers k, l to rotary cutters f, g, which cut it into bag lengths. Paste taken from a roller b<1> is applied by a member z on a shaft a<1> and the gripper q is released to allow a rapidly moving rod d<1> on a chain c<1> to fold over the rear corner piece, whereupon a fixed folder f' folds down the front corner piece. The machine may operate on a web having bellows folds at its sides, additional fingers being provided on the roller m to open out the bellows fold and knives being mounted on rollers c, d to form slits to facilitate the pasting operation.
