Abstract

303,634. Boulton, P. R. Dec. 9, 1927. Feedwater, supplying and controlling.-In a system in which a surge tank 6 and heater 5 are provided between the condenser extraction pump 2 and the boiler feed pump 3, the surge tank is connected to the conduit 4 between the pumps by pipes 7, 8, which open into it on both sides of the heater 5 and a non-return valve 9 permits flow through pipe 7 only in the direction of the feed pump 3. A valve 10 in pipe 8 opens when the pressure on the condensate pump side of the valve exceeds a predetermined amount. Alternatively, a valve 10, responsive to pressure in the suction side of the feed pump may be used to control the flow of water to the surge tank through the pipe 8.
