Abstract
303,599. Moynan, F. K. O. Nov. 2, 1927. Density separators. - A steam separator has a pipe A with a collar F connected to the flange N of an inverted bell M. Helical vanes H, I are arranged between the pipe A and bell M, and openings in the collar F permit the steam to enter. A conical plate G is fixed at the lower end of the pipe while the upper end has a nozzle B to fit the boiler steam outlet, and lugs D to secure the separator to the boiler drum E. All the elements are preferably cast in one unit. The steam enters through the openings in the collar F, passes down the helical path while water is thrown outwards to the casing M, and the clean steam passes through the openings L to the inside of the pipe A. The wall M has vertical corrugations to assist the separated water to drop below the plate G for discharge by the pipe P. In a modification four vanes are used instead of the two II, I and two separators are used, their outlets being connected by a box to a common outlet. In the modification shown in Fig. 6, the construction of the upper part of the separator is varied so that it can be connected in a pipe line. The apparatus can be used for the extraction of dust or grit from air and other gases.
