Hydrocarbons, distilling; separate heater and evaporator apparatus.- Tars, oils, &c. are distilled by passing the material through heating coils under pressure, allowing it to expand, separating the liquids and vapours produced, and passing them separately in heat exchanging relation with the initial material. The latter enters the plant through a pipe 1 and, preheated by passing through heat exchangers 2 - - 7, enters a separation chamber 9 in which the volatile constituents, e.g. benzene are separated. The material is then passed through a heating coil 15 under pressure and expanded in a chamber 17, the residual liquids being pumped through a further coil 32 and expanded in a chamber 34. The vapours produced in the chambers 17, 34 are passed up fractionnating columns 19, 36, the uncondensed portions being finally condensed in the heat exchangers 3 and 5 while the fraction condensed in the column 19 is reheated by steam in a vessel 23, the volatilized portions being condensed in the exchanger 4 and the pitch residue passing to storage through a cooler 28. Similarly the residues from the vessel 34 are reheated by steam in a tower 43 and the vapours produced are condensed in the exchanger 7. Specification 264,549 is referred to.
