Abstract
302,801. Forth Engine &. Motor Works (Newcastle-upon-Tyne), Ltd., and Paynter, W. L. Dec. 19, 1927. No Patent granted (Scaling fee not paid). Luggage racks and holders. - A spare wheel carrier for motor vehicles, applicable also for carrying tools and luggage, comprises a cradle, formed for example of a pair of angle-iron side frames a, a<1> and front and rear U-shaped underbearers b, c carrying a central bar d for supporting the wheel, which cradle is suspended on rollers m, n adapted to run on tracks r carried by the vehicle frame s beneath the body, so that it can be withdrawn from beneath the vehicle and the rollers m at its front end disengaged from the tracks to allow the front end to be lowered to the ground as shown, the rear end being supported by the tracks. The two rear rollers n are larger than the front pair, so as to engage stops t which prevent their disengagement. Stops are provided at the rear ends of the tracks r to limit the inward travel of the cradle, and may be formed with sockets to prevent, lateral swaying. A facia board g on the front of the cradle, is fitted with handles h for manipulation, and with one or more spring locks, the bolts of which are received in sockets in the lower edge of the back k of the vehicle body.
