Abstract
302,526. Glenfield & Kennedy, Ltd., and Price, O. A. March 8, 1928. Closure members, hinged. - In a pivoted disc valve 1, Fig. 1, having a conical edge cooperating with a conical seat, the pivot 3 is located within the angle FGH contained between lines drawn transverse to the pivot and normal to the conical surface from diametrically opposite points A, C on the disc boundaries of larger and smaller diameters respectively, the vertex G of said angle being nearer to the axis of the cone than the pivot, whereby the disc is enabled to tilt freely into or out of its seating without any rubbing action. The precise position of the pivot is determined by the angles of approach A<1>, C' desirable at the points A, C. The valve may be automatically or positively controlled. As shown in Fig. 8, the disc 8, when swung open, places a pipe section 9 in line with main pipe, the valve being operated by a worm 10 engaging a toothed segment 11 on the pivot 3. Packing material may be provided on the edge of the disc or on the seat. External self-sustaining and cushioning means as described in Specification 301,950 may be provided.
