Abstract

Liquid-pressure engines.-A hydraulic motor comprising cylinders a, Fig. 1, and diaphragm pistons b is controlled by altering the stroke by utilizing the elastic deflection of its crankshaft brought about by means of masses p eccentrically carried by the shaft. The masses may comprise members acted on by springs u, Fig. 4, abutting at one end against plates t adjustably mounted on screws s. Shaft deflections due to hydraulic forces may be neutralized by a symmetrical arrangement of systems of cylinders or by balancing discs q, Fig. 5, partly filled with mercury z and provided with a member y acted on in opposite directions by hydraulic pressure and a spring. In a modification, wherein the hydraulic forces balance each other, the crankshaft is divided into portions f<1>, f<2>, Fig. 8, the former carrying an eccentric e<1> and the latter eccentrics e<2>, and the pistons being alternately connected to the eccentrics e<1>, e<2>.
