Abstract

300,411. Wilkes, J., and Wilkes & Sons, Ltd., S. Dec. 14, 1927. Stud-and -slot fastenings; striking-plates for locks and latches.-In a lock or latch of the kind in which a peg 4 on one part engages a socket 14 on the striking plate the pin and socket are provided with co-engaging tapering or partconical surfaces one of which is formed of rubber or like resilient material and the other of metal, the rubber surface being in the form of collar or ring forming a controlling liner situated between the periphery of the pin and the wall of the socket when the door is closed. The catch plate 1 carries the latch pins 4 with a tapered head 5. A rubber ring 8 is mounted upon the pin, as shown. The latch casing 10 contains a spring-pressed lever 12 provided with an operating handle. At the back of the casing is a plate 15 having a boss 16 into which a rubber ring 17 is forced, this ring being flared and tapered to receive the pin head 5 when the door is closed. The inner notch 18 of the pin is curved at one side 19 to over-ride the lever 12. The socket 14 is tapered sharply to centralise the pin as the door closes. The rubber liner may be placed upon the pin only or in the socket only.
