Abstract

Road-traffic signals on vehicles. - A direction indicator for use on vehicles comprises a transparent cylindrical casing 1 divided into a number of compartments bv means of horizontal partitions 2 - - 5, a lamp or group of lamps 10, 11 in each compartment and switches for each group of lamps so arranged that one or more groups may be illuminated to give signals viewable in all directions. The groups of lamps may be differently coloured or the corresponding parts 12 - - 15 of the casing may be of different colours. The casing is supported on a base member 21 by a rubber washer 26 and arranged centrally within the casing is a tubular member 22 for the lamp leads 28 and the lamp fittings 20. The top of the casing is closed by a cap 16 through which passes a thumb screw 18 engaging the lamp fitting 20, and over the cap 16 is fitted a protecting cover 23 with leaf springs 24 and bayonet slots for connection to pins on the casing. The indicator may be mounted on the top of the body of a saloon car or on one of the wind screen standards of cars with collapsable hoods.
