Abstract
299,721. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Oct. 29, 1927, [Convention date]. Samples furnished. Naphthalene derivatives. - Acid wool dyes are obtained by causing an aminosulphonic or sulphamic acid of naphthalic anhydride to react with ammonia or a primary aliphatic or aromatic amine or aromatic o-diamine. or by causing a sulphonic acid of naphthalic anhydride to react with a primary aromatic o-diamine. The same or similar dyes are also obtained by converting the products of the reaction, of naphthalic anhydride or an amino derivative thereof with ammonia or a primary aliphatic or aromatic amine into a sulphonic or s'ulphamic acid. In examples, (1) 4-sulphamino -1 : 8 -naphthalic-anhydride, obtained by nitrating naphthalic anhydride, reducing, and treating the 4-aminonaphthalic anhydride with chlorsulphonic acid in pyridine, is boiled with water and o-phenylenediamine, the product dyes wool in an acid bath orange yellow tints; a dye yielding bright clear yellow tints on wool is obtained by using aniline instead of o-phenylenediamine, (2) 4-sulphamino-1: 8-naphthalic anhydride is heated with ammonia in an autoclave; the product dyes wool a clear yellow tint, (3) 4- aminosulpho-1 : 8-naphthalic anhydride, obtained by sulphonating 4-amino-1 : 8-naphthalic anhydride with sulphuric acid monohydrate, is boiled with water and o-phenylenediamine; the product dyes wool an orange tint, while the corresponding dye from ammonia yields yellow tints, and (4) 4-amino-1 : 8-naphthalimide, obtained by treating 4-amino-1 : 8-naphthalic anhydride with ammonia, is sulphonated by heating with sulphuric acid monohydrate; the product dyes wool in yellow tints. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the production of acid wool dyes by causing a sulphonic, nitrosulphonic, aminosulphonic or sulphamic acid of naphthalic anhydride to react with ammonia or any aliphatic or aromatic amine, or by treating naphthalic anhydride or its derivatives with sulphonated amines. In further examples, (1) 4- amino-1 : 8-naphthalimide is treated with chlorsulphonic acid and pyridine, the sulphamic acid obtained dyes wool from an acetic acid bath in clear yellow tints, (2) 4-amino-1: 8-naphthalphenylimide is treated with chlorsulphonic acid and pyridine, the product dyes wool bright yellow tints; similar dyestuffs are obtained from 4-amino- 1 : 8 - naphthalethylimide and 3 - amino - 1 : 8 - naphthalmethylimide, (3) 4-amino-1 : 8-naphthalic anhydride is boiled with water and sodium 4- toluidine-3-sulphonate, the product dyes animal fibre in a clear yellow tint, and (4) 4-aminosulpho-1 : 8-naphthalic anhydride is boiled with water and p-toluidine; the product, which gives a clear yellow solution with a strong greenish fluorescence in water, dyes animal fibres in an acid bath a greenish-yellow tint of great clearness. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
