Abstract

298,410. Hutto, M. C. Dec. 28, 1927. Round holes, enlarging and trueing; rotating- tool apparatus.-A device for trueing cylinder bores consists of a body 1 with a central aperture 2 in which is a bolt 9 engaging two cones 3, 4, the cones respectively engaging the ends of pins 15, 16 which are die-cast on to parts 17 die-cast on to abrading-members 12, 14; movement of the cones, which are pressed apart by a spring 11, causes outward or inward movement of the abrading-members. The pins are held pressed against the cones by flat springs 18 engaging notches 21 in the pins and secured to the body 1 by screws 20. The tool is driven by a shaft 27 having a ball end 28 seating in a recess 31 in the body 1 and having driving pins 29, 30 engaging notches 32. The bolt 9 is prevented from accidental turning by a spring wire 22 passing through the bolt head and having coiled ends seated in a recess 7 in the cone 3. The cones, bolt, and spring are movable as a unit to allow the abrading-members 12 - - 14 to tilt slightly when the cylinder bore is slightly conical, and to cause the members to assume a parallel position as grinding proceeds.
