Abstract

297,888. Troyer, N. June 29, 1927. Divided on 297,864. Punching; punches.-A metal-punching apparatus, particularly for use in notching metal plates in a can body forming machine as described in Specification 297,864, comprises a reciprocating punch co-operating with a die adjustably mounted in a slot in a die holder at a compound angle with respect to the line of movement of the punch, so as to permit the adjustment of the die after sharpening by grinding without affecting the angles of clearance. The punches 5, which are provided with shearing surfaces 8, 9, are secured by plates 6 in a head provided with a lug connected by a connecting- rod to an eccentric journal on the driving shaft. The punches are adjusted vertically after sharpening. The dies 14, which have shearing edges 20, 21, are mounted in slots 13 in a holder 11, the slots being inclined in two directions, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, so that adjustment of the dies may be effected after grinding without altering the angles of clearance. The dies are held in position by a plate 15.
